Can you believe today is the last day of January? February is going to be another busy month at the library. We have lots of interesting events planned and of course we always have new books and more to offer.
A quick reminder that tonight at 7 p.m. you can hear photographer Kathryn Nordstrom and editor Marlene Wisuri talk about their recent book project The Fish House Book. Copies of the book will be available for sale.
Borderland Reads continues. Come borrow a copy of After This by Alice McDermott so you are ready to discuss the book on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. in the library meeting room. Borderland Reads is an excellent opportunity to chat with friends and neighbors or even strangers about a book. The book can provide an opening to talk about anything. Come join the community in reading this book.
Storytime in the month of February will continue at their regular time of 10:30 a.m. Thursday mornings. Come join kids, babies, moms and even the occasional dad for 20 to 30 minutes of stories, rhymes and song. February themes will include transportation, Valentines Day, shapes and colors. Storytime is a great opportunity to begin introducing children to the library in a fun, relaxed environment.
The Friends of the Library will meet Tuesday, Feb. 5, for the monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. Anyone is welcome to come and participate. The group is always looking for people willing to step up and help. Tuesday, Feb. 19, will be the evening of the monthly Friends book sale. The book room will be open from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. New books are always being donated so if you haven’t stopped by in a while now would be a good time. All sales are by donation with proceeds to benefit the library.
Tuesday evening, Feb. 19, will also be family night. The third annual “Edible Car Contest” will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. Families are encouraged to come, build an edible car, race it down the track and see which car travels the farthest. A variety of edible products will be provided but if you have a great idea, it is recommended that you bring it, as there is no guarantee we will think of the same thing. The car must be built and have moving parts.
Last year, we received a very nice donation to create a lecture series encouraging the community to make informed decisions about their lives, their community and their world on progressive topics. To kickoff the series we have scheduled a debate among the three main DFL candidates for United States Senate, Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer, Mike Ciresi, and Al Franken. Mark your calendars now for Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. at the RRCC theater. The debate will also be broadcast on broncoradio.com with Roger Jerome. Come hear the politicians who want to make decisions on your behalf and learn their priorities.
The library will be closed Monday, Feb. 18, for Presidents’ Day.
