Summer Reading is in full swing and that includes our programs. We have upcoming programs for all ages.
Thursday, July 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. the library will make its gaming equipment available to kids and caregivers. At least one caregiver per six children is requested. Tuesday, July 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., teens entering grades 7 and above are encouraged to stop in and spend time playing games at the library. We have two Wiis and a Playstation 2 with a variety of games as well as a wide variety of board games. Refreshments will be provided.
Thursday, July 9, at 1 p.m., the library will help kids explore the world of drama and dance through games and silly activities. This activity is for children ages 6 and up. The following Thursday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m., the library, in conjunction with the Arrowhead Library System, is hosting musician Hans Meyer in concert at the library. Join us for a rollicking good time of music and fun.
Before adults feel left out by the lack of opportunities for them, don’t despair. We have two upcoming programs for you as well. Thursday, July 9, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., author Frank Maraj will be signing his book. Snapshots is the journey of a young Hindu boy from “stupid” and “hopeless” to “respected teacher.” By chronicling Snapshots of his life, Maraj takes the reader on a journey through life’s tribulations and triumphs. The book will be available for purchase at the signing for $25 each. Then on Monday, July 20, at 6:30 p.m., author Dennis Weidemann will present a slide show about the journey of four farm boy’s 1979 1,400 mile journey from Minnesota to Hudson Bay. He will sell copies of his book This Water Goes North following the presentation.
The children’s summer reading program includes prizes for children that keep track of the number of hours they spend reading or being read to. Prizes are awarded for reading 5 hours, 10 hours, 15 hours and 25 hours. We encourage children to read 30 minutes a day (and it doesn’t have to be all at once.) The teen and adult summer reading programs include chances to read prizes. We will have one prize drawing on Monday, Aug. 24, so be sure to have all your reading slips turned in by Friday, Aug. 21. For each book read, fill out a bookmark, indicating title, author of book read and then your name and phone number. Reviews of the books are also great. We are posting those on our blog which can be found at http://ifallslibrary.blogspot.com/.
The library will be closed Friday, July 3. Don’t forget the library’s Web site which is available whenever you need library information. It includes book recommendations, access to the library catalog, and links to many online resources to help you find accurate, timely information about antiques, educational testing, car repair, small engine repair, health and lots more. Bookmark it and visit it often at http://internationalfallslibrary.us
