Shirley Bernice Haley, 93, of International Falls, Minn., passed away after a brief illness with her family by her side. She was called home Aug. 1, 2008.
She was born Dec. 3, 1914, in International Falls and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Falls High School with the Class of ‘34.
The former Shirley Gardner was united in marriage to Maurice “Buzz” Haley on June 24, 1938, in International Falls at the St. Thomas Parsonage.
Shirley worked at Ketola’s Department Store, Lee’s Hat Shop for 10 years and was the secretary at the Koochiching County Nurse’s Office for 19 years.
Shirley was a wonderful friend, a loving mother, grandma and great-grandma, who will be sadly missed and remembered fondly by all who knew her.
She enjoyed sewing, reading, crossword puzzles and hosting tea parties.
Shirley was a member of the Professional Advisory Committee of the Koochiching County Nursing Service, a member of Faith United Church of Christ where she also served on the Life and Leadership Committee for nine years and was a member of Degree of Honor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice “Buzz” Haley; her parents, Bradford and Emeretta (Hanson) Gardner; and sisters, Lois Cook, Blanche Kinshella and Alice Carlson.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (William) Berg of International Falls; granddaughters, Heather (Brent Geldert) Kantos of Shakopee, Minn., and Kallie (Michael) Kantos-Fritz of International Falls; great-granddaughter, Abigail Geldert; and her sister-in-law, Margaret Haley of Fort Frances.
Please join the family in celebrating the life of Shirley Haley at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Faith United Church of Christ.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
