The annual Minnesota State Old Time Fiddle Championship will be held Friday and Saturday in the Cotton High School, Cotton, and Robert R. Hilke Jr., will be there.
Army Pvt. Benjamin J. Presler has entered basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

25 YEARS AGO
Sgt. Frederick L. Napper, son of Wallace L. Napper and Virginia G. Napper, has arrived for duty in Schweinfurt, West Germany.
Sgt. William C. Piekarski has participated in Global Shield '83, an exercise involving U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps units and elements of the Canadian forces.

40 YEARS AGO
Mrs. George Milak was honored at a farewell party at the Art Hartje home. Mr. and Mrs. Milak will leave early next month for St. Louis, Mo., where they will make their home.
The Alfred Boquist family, 1420 11th Ave., has a new member — 17-year-old Elmar Thordarson, an American Field Service foreign exchange student from Reykjavik, Iceland.
Mrs. Joseph Taschuk, 1122 Eighth Ave., won a blue ribbon in the Foreign News category of the Rainy Lake Horticultural Society annual flower show. She used dahlias and bells of Ireland to carry out this theme.
David Trompeter, a native of International Falls, will teach industrial arts at Falls High School. His experience as an industrial arts teacher includes one year at Baudette and seven years at Big Fork.
50 YEARS AGO
Ricky Blanchard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Blanchard, was honored yesterday afternoon on his 13th birthday by eight friends.
Doreen Dahl entertained 20 girls and boys yesterday afternoon at her home at 1219 Main Ave. in honor of her seventh birthday. Games were played with prizes going to Dalyce Larson, Patty L’Heureux, Daryl Nelson, Sheryl Knutson and Doreen and Craig Dahl.
A former International Falls man has been selected to attend Northwestern university traffic institute at Evanston, Ill. He is Bert Johnson, now a sergeant in the Minnesota Highway Patrol.
Karen Erickson spent the weekend with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Williams at Kettle Falls.

60 YEARS AGO
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hoag, 1123 Ninth Ave., are parents of a son born today. The child’s weight was 8 pounds, 3 ounces.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gunderson, 1319 Main Ave., have chosen the name Fred Thomas for their son born today. He weighed an even 7 pounds.
A son was born today to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hauge, South International Falls. The baby was checked at 7 pounds, 4 1/2 ounces.
Diane Marie is the name of the daughter born today to Mr. and Mrs. Myron Ness, Sawmill Addition. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces.
