Satire of Icebox Radio Theatre to warm up Backus audience

No votes yet

Mary Casanova and Sloughgrass are expected to be guests at the next big live Icebox Radio Theater at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at Backus Auditorium.
The main play of the evening is a live adaptation of Casanova’s book, “Dog Watch: Trouble in Pembrook,” the first book in Casanova’s newest series for young readers.
The evening is expected to feature a variety of sketches and skits, as well as plenty of music from the Birchdale-based band Sloughgrass. The family band’s music is a blend of bluegrass, old-time, Scandinavian, gospel country and folk, and have played at the 2006 Governor’s Fishing Opener, International Falls Summer Concerts at the Bandstand and the Roskilde Blomster Festival in Denmark. The band recently released their first CD, available at Thrifty White in International Falls.
Tickets for Icebox Radio Theater’s production are now available on both sides of the border at Betty’s on Scott Street in Fort Frances and in International Falls at Expresso Lane in Super One Groceries and the Backus Community Center, home of IBRT. Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for kids age eight and under, and family plans are available for $25.
The Theater needs volunteers for this production. Anyone interested in trading their time for admission to the show should call Artistic Director Jeff Adams. Visit the IBRT Web site at
