KOOTASCA office
The KOOTASCA office will be closed Monday in observance of Columbus Day. Regular business hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Anyone with an emergency may call First Call For Help at 1-800-442-8565.
Holy Trinity women
The Women of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Barney’s Family Restaurant.
Autumn Arts Festival
Northland Art Society, Northern Lights Quilters and Citizens for Backus/AB will sponsor the Autumn Arts Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Backus Community Center. Art sale, demonstrations, and hands-on projects, quilt sale and bake sale will be offered. Soup and sandwich lunch by Jay from 11 to 2, $5. Laser light shows in the Dungeon on the hour starting at 10, $3. Community Market vendors will be inside for the last market of the season. The Clothesline Project, sponsored by Friends Against Abuse, will be on the Backus stage. Everyone is welcome.
Indus Homecoming
Indus Homecoming events are scheduled for Wednesday. The JV game is set for 3 p.m., with the Varsity game starting between 4 and 4:30. The dance will begin 30 minutes after the varsity game ends. Ninth graders will be selling food items. Theme is the 1960s and students are encouraged to dress in that fashion, however, those who wish to dress more formal are welcome. Soren Olsen has offered to run a bus to International Falls following the dance which ends at 9 p.m. for $2 per person. Dance admission is $3 per person. In order to ride the bus home, students must sign up and pay the bus fare in the office by Monday. Spirit wWek will be observed Oct. 12-15 and a pepfest will be featured from 1:30 to 2:30 Wednesday.

Scouting for Food
Cub Scout Pack 145 along with Boy Scout Troops 145 and 150 will collect food for the local Falls Hunger Coalition Sunday. Homeowners are asked to have a bag of nonperishable food items near their front entrance or mailbox by 1 p.m. Monetary donations are also accepted. Make checks payable to Falls Hunger Coalition. Items most needed are canned fruit, canned juice, canned meat and canned meals. If a donation has not been collected by 5 p.m., call 283-8020 and leave a message.
Kabetogama AA
An AA meeting is planned for 7:30 p.m. Saturdays downstairs at the Kabetogama Methodist Church. Call 218-875-3048 for more information.

GED testing
Participants will receive their GED certificate after completing the test. Testing is done by appointment only. Pre-register through Adult Basic Education at 283-9575. Testing takes place at Falls High School. Photo ID is required. Cost is $100; retests, $20; $140 Agency fee.; copy of GED records, $5. Instructor is Blanche Halvorson.
