Phone recycling
Borderland Humane Society is currently participating in a cell phone recycling program. By recycling old cell phones, the humane society can receive money for the old phones, with all proceeds going to BHS. The community is urged to help by donating phones to help animals in need. Phones may be dropped off at The Daily Journal, Radio Shack or K-104/KGHS Radio Station. Anyone with questions may call 218-324-2313.
Ladies aid
St. Paul Lutheran Church Ladies Aid will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Fellowship Hall.
Saddle club
Rainy River Riders Saddle Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Dairy Queen. Major topic of interest will be planning the year-end banquet. Members are encouraged to attend to contribute banquet input.
Basketball sign-ups
Recreation basketball sign-ups for participants in grades 1 through 8 will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Elks Club. Cost of registration is $35 for a recreation fee, $17 for a uniform fee (if needed) and $10 for basketball booster fee. Participants in grades 7 and 8 must pay a $100 signup fee.
WLS group
The Gastric Bypass Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at Falls Elementary School Library. Topic will be “Triggers.” The group is open to those looking into Weight Loss Surgery, have had WLS and need support to maintain or those that are a friend or family member of someone working through WLS.
Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers will meet Thursdays at Zion Lutheran Church for weighs-in at 11:45 a.m. and 5:15 p.m., with meetings at 12:15 and 5:45 p.m.
Peace Is The Way event
The community is welcome to gather with The Peace Cell of International Falls between 11:45 a.m. and noon Wednesdays at the City Flagpole. The purpose is to raise collective consciousness with a five-minute silent intention for peace within ourselves, our families, our community, our country and in our world. In case of inclement weather, the group will meet by the memorial inside the courthouse.
Indus Homecoming
Indus Homecoming events are scheduled for Wednesday. The JV game is set for 3 p.m., with the Varsity game starting between 4 and 4:30. The dance will begin 30 minutes after the varsity game ends. Ninth graders will be selling food items. Theme is the 1960s and students are encouraged to dress in that fashion, however, those who wish to dress more formal are welcome. Soren Olsen has offered to run a bus to International Falls following the dance which ends at 9 p.m. for $2 per person. Dance admission is $3 per person. Spirit Week will be observed Oct. 12-15 and a pepfest will be featured from 1:30 to 2:30 Wednesday.
GED testing
Participants will receive their GED certificate after completing the test. Testing is done by appointment only. Pre-register through Adult Basic Education at 283-9575. Testing takes place at Falls High School. Photo ID is required. Cost is $100; retests, $20; $140 Agency fee.; copy of GED records, $5. Instructor is Blanche Halvorson.
