The holiday gifts of artisans and bakers, plus books and ‘Festival of Trees’ to be featured

The sixth annual Arts, Crafts, Edibles and Collectibles Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 29 at the Backus Community Center.
A fund raiser by the center, a wide variety of items from crafters and artisans from around the state will be available for sale to the public.
Some of the items to be offered are: pottery, birch-bark crafts, handmade soaps, jewelry, wood crafts, candles, handmade wreaths, quilts, knitted and hand-sewn items, edibles and bake sale goods, and locally roasted coffee.
The annual “Festival of Trees” will be featured with a silent auction. Bids will be accepted until 3 p.m. on the day of the craft sale, at which time the trees will be awarded to the highest bidders.
Display of the trees for public viewing begins on Tuesday in the Backus reception room.
Backus provides 12 unadorned Christmas trees and local individuals and businesses donate decorations along with their artistic talents to create one-of-a-kind holiday elegance, say Citizens for Backus/AB organizers.
Lunch will be available at the event. Backus chef, Jay Hokenson, will prepare soup and sandwiches, to be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost for the lunch is $5 per person.
Friends of the Library will team up with Backus this year to offer a selection of barely used books, matched with gift items and ready for holiday giving.
Children’s books have been paired with stuffed animals and Christmas items matched with cookie or craft books. Everything is one-of-a-kind and reasonably priced, according to Myrna Meadows of FOL. All sales benefit special projects at the library such as the latest FOL purchase — a 32-inch digital frame in the library’s main lobby, for viewing photos of library events such as family night. FOL also provides Books for Babies to children born at Falls Memorial Hospital and hosts Project Bookshelf that gives a new book to every child in Head Start.
Citizens for Backus/AB extends an invitation to the public to take advantage of one-stop shopping for gifts for everyone on their holiday list.
