Willie Corrin tallied a hat trick Tuesday in an 8-1 victory over La Crescent to help give the Falls Broncos a shot to repeat as champions of the Kiwanis/Wells Fargo Hockey Festival in Rochester, Minn.

The Broncos won three overtime games last year to capture the championship, and will battle Rochester Lourdes for the title this season. Lourdes beat Albert Lea 5-0 in Tuesday’s other semifinal.

Corrin scored the first two goals of the game — the second short-handed — and tallied his third on the power play at the 15:56 mark of the second period to give the Broncos a 6-0 lead.

Jordan Christianson and Michael Bounds also scored in the first to put the Broncos up 4-0, before Bounds added his second goal early in the second to put the Falls up 5-0.

“We had a good first period and kind of took the wind out of their sails,” Broncos coach John Prettyman said.

La Crescent’s only goal came on the power play early in the third period. Christianson tallied his second goal at the 6-minute mark of the third, and Jace Baldwin capped the scoring at the 12-minute mark.

Overall, eight players finished with points for the Broncos: Corrin (3G), Baldwin (G, 2A) Christianson (2G), Bounds (2G), Travis Phillipe (2A), Josh Leinum (A), Daniel Eldien (A), Jon McDonald (A) and Jake Ruelle (A).

Mike Hart started in net and made four saves in the first period before giving way to Glenn Walls, who finished with three saves over the final two periods.

Tim Johnson made 31 saves for the Lancers.

Wednesday’s championship game begins at 5:30 p.m.
