To the editor,
We are on the verge of a crisis in rural Minnesota. One in three nursing homes is in serious risk of closure due to inadequate funding by Governor Pawlenty and the Legislature.
It is absolutely critical that senior care centers throughout Minnesota receive the rate increases they deserve to allow them more flexibility in staff wages, facility repairs and the ability to purchase the necessary equipment. This will help to provide senior citizens the care they deserve in the twilight of their lives.
Elected officials all say they care for seniors but it seems that all they ever really want to do is pay lip service to the problem instead of offering real solutions. I will continue to talk to my legislators and Governor Pawlenty to make sure that they get the necessary rate increases needed to make up for years of funding shortfalls. We cannot afford to have any more nursing homes close their doors in our communities. Our parents and grandparents are the people who helped to build Minnesota, and they deserve better.
Please call your legislators today.
