Katie Bruggeman’s found fame in an unusual connection — her preschool boyfriend.

Bruggeman, 29, appeared in an exclusive interview on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report Sept. 11 as the preschool girlfriend of Dave Karsnia.

Karsnia, also formerly of International Falls, has found his 15-minutes of fame in being the officer who arrested U.S. Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho in the restroom of the Minneapolis airport in June.

Bruggeman works as an executive assistant on The Colbert Report in New York and has worked on the show since it started. Before that she worked for Comedy Central network, according to her father, John Bruggeman of Ranier.

As the show’s host Stephen Colbert interviewed Katie about growing up in International Falls, Bruggeman indicated her connection to the area as she raised her fist into the air and shouted, “Go Broncos.”

Bruggeman attended Falls High School through tenth grade and graduated from the Perpich Center for Arts Education in Golden Valley. She served an internship with Spike Lee’s production company and than later worked with Robert DeNiro’s company, according to her father.

In the tongue-in-cheek interview with the Colbert, Bruggeman described how at age four, Karsnia shared his graham crackers with her. The bold print below the screen read: “Sex sting cop shared everything with former lover.”

And Colbert asked whether any of Karsnia’s actions in preschool would have indicated his future fame.

John Bruggeman said that while the interview was playful it contained the truth.

“When she was little, she was always talking about (Dave),” he said. “(The interview) was pretty cute, but she’s not that naive. That’s the way they wanted to play it.”

Bruggeman said he’s proud of his daughter and her accomplishments and noted that she’s considering attending law school.
