ABOUT LOCAL FOLKS

A former local woman was recently featured in a column in the Anchorage Daily News.

Roberta Renk, formerly Kaspari, was included in a column titled, “Let’s celebrate and support our local yarn stores” written by Catherine Hollingsworth and published Nov. 20.

The following is an excerpt from the column:

“One such shop, The Tangled Skein, is about to celebrate its first anniversary as Eagle River’s local yarn store. Roberta Renk, the owner, is a Minnesota native who moved to Alaska in 1985. She learned her needlecraft from her grandmother, as many of us have. Although she mostly crocheted at first, she has become an avid knitter and is skilled enough to teach some of the shop’s many classes.”

“The small shop’s inventory and class schedule are always customer-driven. Since felting is popular in the Eagle River area, the best sellers in yarn are the basic wools used for felting, such as Cascade and Lamb’s Pride. You’ll also find that Roberta keeps a good stock of favorite sock yarns to round out her selection.”
