Planned Parenthood

Can anyone tell me where Planned Parenthood is? I know they used to be by Great Clips, but that was a while ago.
Thanks for your help!

Morally it is somewhere between purgatory and hell. However, I am unsure about its geographical location.

Haha, I am not asking for an abortion.. or condoning what they do. I am simply wondering where it is in town. Apart from the several hundred abortions they do every year in MN, I think the rest of what they do is good.
I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me, but it should be easier for teenage girls to get birth control pills without having to ask their parents to bring them to the clinic.

fhs2002, sorry I can't help you. Planned Parenthood should be available to anyone who needs to use their services.

I say they should install birth control and condom machines at the High School, RRCC Athletic Dorm, and maybe even outside Hardee's!!!! Then we have no need for abortions! But I am in favor of "retroactive" abortions for some "Liberals"! LOL!! One more thing, "only" several hundred abortions in Minnesota each year? Or just by Planned Parenthood??

Wow, I'm sorry I read something wrong... In a post from this summer by the President of MN Citezens Concerned for Life, they stated that the MN Dept of Health showed in their Annual Abortion Report that MN had 14,065 abortions in 2006 and that it was 700 more than 2005, with Planned Parenthoods INCREASE from 2005 to 2006 was 645. Meaning most of the increase was from them. So to say several hundred was an understatement, thanks for pointing that out Roj.
I'm not saying I'm for an abortion, I am not seeking planned parenthood for information on abortion. This is merely about birth control.
If birth control pills were easier to get I think there would be less teen pregnancy in this town.

After some more research I found some shocking statistics... Out of Minnesota's 14,065 abortions in 2006, Planned Parenthood did 3,660 of them. From a poll, they found out that 68% of those women had the abortion because they just didn't want a child at that time, 35% said it was because of financial reasons, and less than 1 percent said it was because of a rape. Very sad results. An even more disturbing finding from this poll was that 41% of the women had one prior abortion, while 139 women said they had had 6 or more prior abortions! Now that is just sick!
I didn't mean to turn this into a talk about abortion, but I thought I'd pass on what I found.

I don't think anyone was assuming that was your motive. However, Planned Parenthood, because of their activities, is a lightening rod for the pro-lifers. Even for those pro-lifers who are not necessarily opposed to preventative birth control.

I am sure PP has a list of locations on their website. Otherwise, look for the pro-life protesters. I can guarentee there will be a group outside.

LOL! Thanks! I did check the Planned Parenthood websites for sites in MN before I bravely decided to ask on here, and of course, a site in Int'l Falls was not listed. I'll keep looking, maybe I'll call the clinic and ask them.

Planned Parenthood has closed its doors in International Falls. Not sure of the reason why. Maybe the "powers that be" want to increase our dying population?? Perhaps there should be a box that a person checks on their taxes that states: I am totally 100%prolife!!!!! And, then when the next unwanted child arrives, that person with the checked box should be given that child to raise. Kudos to you, fhs2002 for planning ahead if this is the case.

MamaG,

There are no "Unwanted" babies, just "un-needed" ones!!!! But, just think of all those couples (not homosexuals) who "cannot conceive for one reason or not. Wouldn't it be nice if they could have one or two of the "un-wanted" babies, BEFORE they are ABORTED?? Maybe there could be some courses on "planned" parenting at FHS and at RRCC!

And, why such a problem with homosexuals?? I really don't think you're their type so you mustn't worry so much.
Oh no. I'm getting off the subject here.
So, no, I don't know where planned parenthood is. Virginia is the closest one listed.
And, as long as I'm off the subject, can everyone PLEASE keep their snowmachines out of my yard??

MamaG,

I hit your "homosexual" button, huh?? Even though I spent years on a submarine, I am still not their type, you are right on that! I don't have a problem with two "homo's" living together, I just have a problem with them adopting children. Just think of a child who has to go to a school function and introduce their parents, "hi, this is my Mother, his name is "Tom", or something like that. The last time I checked the bible mentioned "Adam and Eve", NOT, "Adam and Steve"!! But, let's just re-write the bible, because it doesn't mean much anymore, along with the 10 commandments (while you're at it). And then get rid of "Christ" and just say that some "Holiday" guy was hung on a cross!! Oh well, I must finish my Starbucks and get to work! Some of us have job, ya know!

It seems that many of the frequent writers on this site use it to be self righteous and judgemental.

Sometimes a constructive conversation is all that is necessary and desired.

Regardless of anyone's opinion of the subject, all fhs2002 is looking for is an address or the lack thereof. I don't think it's necessary to jump to conclusions about the reason for their visit. And even if it is to get an abortion, it's none of any of our business. It was obiviously not the intention of the original post to start a pro-life/pro-choice debate.

You know, I don't know if I am correct in saying this, but try across the street from Wherleys. I think I remember seeing something there. If its not, I'm sorry. It just keeps coming up in my mind that its there. And good for you for wanting to be careful. People on here are so judgemental. Sometimes its better not to listen to them. Of course there are that few that do care and who are not judgemental. Kudos to them!

Back to page top

OK, you "left wing" abortion supporters, I will "splain" it one more time. No one was attacking fhs2002 for "maybe" wanting some birth control, but "maybe" some of us are tired of the abortions that are "out of control". Who's paying for them?? People can't afford athletic items for school, but they can buy an abortion? They can't pay for rural fire protection, but can buy an abortion? Let's get real here, and give and take a little and use some common sense, before you get 100% behind using abortion for "birth control". One of my points, was that there are many couples who would pay the Mother's medical bills and then some, just to get a baby. But, now, you "baby killers" just want to throw the unwanted babies in the landfill! How, disgusting is that!! And you call me nuts?? Is there no morality left in America and Minnesota?

who in this forum is a "baby killer"? like i said, i'm not interested in getting an abortion, nor have i ever had one. and i don't know anyone who wants one either... i don't think anyone has written anything in this about abortion being ok. i have 2 beautiful children and i thank God for them everyday.
To answer your statement Roj, who's paying for these abortions? 28% of abortions last year were paid for by taxpayers. (http://www.mccl.org/news/nr070207a.htm)

thank you to everyone for your help, i'll check across from wherley's and look by great clips still and make some phone calls if i still can't find it.
Happy Friday!

Who's paying for them? If...

Back to page top

Who's paying for them? If it's Planned Parenthood provided, then it is the person seeking the abortion, and if they don't have the resources to do so it is Planned Parenthood (and thus, it is those who contribute to Planned Parenthood). Anyway, the same $ that pays for the Planned Parenthood abortions so many disdain also helps to pay for the birth control that I think most agree is beneficial and necessary, and the yearly gynecological exams for women who would otherwise not be able to afford that EVERYONE should agree is a very very very good thing. Nobody wants roj2000 or any other pro-lifer to become an abortion rights supporter...it is your right to oppose abortion. But Planned Parenthood clinics in this country spend more of their time/resources on preventative health care than they do on abortion, so the blanket disdain many have for the organization seems incredibly misguided. And as for the question of "unwanted" babies...I am a fervent supporter of a woman's right to choose, and a crazy left winger, but even I will admit that there are more abortions than there should be (because some either do not have access to effective contraception, do not have the education required to use it correctly, or are too irresponsible to do so). That said, without those abortions, there would be a good number of babies born who are "unwanted"--at least "unwanted" by the person who gave birth. It would be wonderful to believe that all of those babies were, in fact, not only wanted by others, but were capable of being taken care of by others, but I don't think people realize how large a number of babies this really is. I once remember hearing that something like 1/5 to 1/4 of the world's pregnancies ending in abortion. That was a few years back, and unfortunately I can't provide any links to the data but if that number is even remotely correct...wow--that's a LOT of embryos, fetuses, babies...is it REALLY practical to think that there are people who are willing and capable to raise all of those children? Or are we just talking about American babies? Point is, while everyone is entitled to their beliefs and values, and while there are certainly strong arguments to be made by the "pro-lifers" the issue is larger and more complicated than a basic "planned parenthood stinks, and there are always people to take care of the babies that would otherwise be aborted" argument. It is unfortunate to hear that Planned Parenthood has closed its doors in the Falls. Having another means to provide safe and effective contraception and preventative gynecological healthcare to people is never a bad thing. Stepping down from the soap box...

Kay, Your "bleeding heart"...

Back to page top

Kay,

Your "bleeding heart" makes my want to cry!! I am "for real" and I've got an idea, when they go to pick up their welfare check, and utility allowance, why don't they hand out condoms and "the pill"?? So, this young lady needs some "birth control", and can only get it from "planned parenthood"???? Doctor visit = prescription = trip to drug store = pick up the pills !! Simple equation, folks, VERY SIMPLE! And I'm sure if you don't have health insurance and can't afford a Doctor visit, Minnesota has some form of free health care, so you can get the pill!! Why do we need another organization, just to hand out condoms, pills, and perform abortions? As for "unwanted babies", isn't that what abortion "boils down to"?? Why do thousands of Americans have to go overseas to get a baby, when there can be thousands of babies saved from the abortion machine, right here in the USA?? Of course not, look at the celeb's, they go to Africa and adopt their little "token" baby!! Right Angelina Jolie?? Oh, sorry, she also went to China! What's wrong with saving a baby over here??
