Indus Staff Report
When a predicted snowstorm hit the area this weekend, many people hoped that this storm, too, would pass over and leave little or no precipitation in its wake.
But when Indus high school students woke Saturday morning to a foot of snow and more on its way, their biggest fear was that their junior/senior prom would be cancelled and rescheduled. Those who were planning to attend prom had already purchased their dresses, rented their tuxes, ordered their flowers, and, in some cases, arranged for a day off work. The thought of rescheduling or postponing was impossible
Prom advisers, too, had misgivings about postponing or rescheduling, though for a time that seemed certain. But after checking the weather forecast, the road conditions, the opinions of some students who were coming to prom, and doing some plowing, the administration decided to go ahead with plans as scheduled.
The result was that 45 students attended, and most stayed for the dance and post-prom events which went until 5 a.m. Though concerned about the roads, many parents and other relatives came to watch the grand march and most chaperones showed up. A dinner which was planned for before the march was postponed until after the march, but otherwise the evening went off without a hitch.
Seniors Evan Nosal and Nicole Jerome were crowned as prom king and queen during the evening, and the theme of this prom was “Kissed by a Rose.” Decorations incorporated the senior class colors of silver and red. DJ for the evening was John Faith, and the caterer was Teresa LaValla. Prom adviser was Lorraine Vollmer.
