Tuesday Musicale met at the home of Patt Thorpe April 14. Prior to the meeting, the Music Camp Scholarship Audition Committee met at the home of Margarete Kostiuk where they auditioned two additional students from the area for camp scholarships. Over 30 students auditioned for the scholarships this year; winners and alternates will be announced by the end of April.
Co-President Mona Johnson called the meeting to order. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given by Margarett Patnode and as fundraiser chairman for music scholarships, she informed the group of many donations received from local businesses. Kostiuk reported that she has attained two full scholarships from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts in International Falls and Littlefork.
Discussion was held concerning contacting former scholarship recipients to solicit donations for the scholarship fund. After much discussion, it was decided to appoint a committee to work on this project. Johnson will type a spreadsheet of former winners to distribute at the May meeting. It was also discussed that Janet Schultheis should be contacted about putting a notice in the next Falls High School Alumni newsletter about scholarship donations.
Since next year is the club’s 45th year of awarding music scholarships, and is also the 75th Anniversary year for Tuesday Musicale, it was suggested that members celebrate this achievement with a special project to promote music for the youth of the community.
The next meeting will be May 12 at the home of Marcia Bringedahl when members gather for a Spring picnic/potluck.
