Wayne ‘Bags’ Carle Haglund, 88

Wayne “Bags” Carle Haglund, of International Falls, Minn., died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Falls Good Samaritan Center. He was 88 years of age.
He was born Jan. 25, 1920 to Claire and Edward Haglund, of International Falls.
Wayne graduated from Falls High School in 1938 and went on to graduate from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1943. He then joined the Marine Corps and was stationed at the Guadalajara Canal, where he was injured when a Jeep rolled over him and broke his back. Following his honorable discharge from the Marines, Wayne returned to the Falls.
On March 25th, 1945, he married the former Patricia Sullivan at Bethlehem Congregational Church.
Wayne received his masters degree from Bemidji State College in 1973. He was the recreation director for School District 361. He taught Science at Falls High School and was assistant coach of the Falls Broncos football and basketball teams. He taught boys health at Falls High School and then became the first full-time athletic director for School District 361.
Wayne was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, International Falls, the Philosophers Club and the Elks Lodge.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling and being a handy man for his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Terry Wayne Haglund.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, of 63 years; daughters, Diane Funk of Fort Frances, Ontario and Debra (Don) Anderson of International Falls, Minn.; grandchildren, Heather (Eric) Skoglund, Ian Anderson, Traci (Frank) Lockman, Jodi Forbes and Kevin (Shawna) Funk; great-grandchildren, Noah and Griffin Skoglund, Jordan (Allie) Nastiuk, Jasmine Nastiuk, Shaina Funk, Paige Funk, Mathew Macdonald, Sydni Funk and Alex Forbes; great-great grandchild, Parker Nastiuk; brothers, Wallace (Adeline) Haglund of the Falls and Myron (June) Haglund of Marshfield, Wis.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services with full military rites will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at Faith United Church of Christ with Jill Warner officiating. Readings will be from the Rev. Leo Buechler.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to Falls Good Samaritan Center or the American Cancer Society.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, International Falls.
