25 YEARS AGO
Beryl Moxness, longtime member of the International Falls Public Library Board, has been named recipient of the 1983 Trustee of the Year award by the Minnesota Library Association.
Doug Aakhus, Lorene Boquist, Myra Shannon and Patti Sirotiak, a team of students from Rainy River Community College, won the Region I division of the ninth annual Northern Minnesota Management Games Competition at Bemidji State University early this month.

40 YEARS AGO
Marine Pvt. 1st Class Jerry A. Longtine of Route 7 is serving with the Fourth Marine Regiment in Vietnam.
William O. Wiemer Jr., SA, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Wiemer Sr., 702 10th St., is serving aboard the USS Cowanoc ATF 100.
Pvt. Douglas Frahm of Ray recently enlisted in the U.S. Army and is training at Fort Campbell, Kent.
Lt. William DeBoer, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.S. DeBoer of Ray, left last night for duty in Vietnam.

50 YEARS AGO
Opening day of the 1957 fishing season produced a 6-pound, 9-ounce walleye caught by Delaine Servis who was fishing with his grandfather, A.D. McEldowney.
The home of Mrs. Thomas Barthell, 1103 Eighth Ave., was the scene of a coffee party Thursday evening in honor of Mrs. Roy Krats, 1124 Sixth St., and her infant son, Douglas Roger.
A pink and blue shower was given to honor Mrs. Cecil Runyan, 722 Ninth Ave., at the home of Mrs. LeRoy Lundquist, 1412 Third Ave. E. Hostesses were Mrs. Richard Hopfner, Mrs. William Pelto, Mrs. Marion Nagurski, Mrs. Don Columbus and Mrs. Claude Pelland.
Donald L. Osborne, a former British United Press bureau manager at Calgary, Alberta, has joined The Journal as telegraph editor.

60 YEARS AGO
Two girls and a boy arrived via “stork delivery” at Northern Minnesota Hospital during the past 24 hours. The son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Sullivan, South International Falls, and a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Richard McClanahan, this city. Both were May 13 arrivals. A daughter was born this morning to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dault, 422 Seventh St.
Larry Hardwig, five-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hardwig, is confined to the Littlefork Hospital for medical care.
Thirty-five friends attended a stork shower for Mrs. Vernon Larsen in her home at Ranier. Co-hostesses for the party were Mmes. Minerva Laird, Ed Christensen and Helmer Blixt.
Mrs. Oscar Johnson, 1302 First Ave., Carson Lupie, was honored by several friends who gathered at her home as a surprise on her birthday anniversary. The party was arranged by Mmes. Obert Holmestad, Robert Jackson and Erhart Norman.
