10 YEARS AGO
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and Auxiliary essay winners included Kalan Wagner, first; Benjamin Deedrick, second, and Stephanie Johnson, third.
James R. Miller, son of Earl and Barb Miller, was awarded a $1,000 William F. Braasch Endowment Scholarship at the annual honors day ceremony at the University of Minnesota, in recognition of the achievements of the first-through third-year dental students.

25 YEARS AGO
You are cordially invited to a golden wedding anniversary tea in honor of Ralph and Ruby Miller June 1, 2 to 4 p.m., at the Senior Citizens Building.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Otto of Dunbar, Wis., announce the arrival of their first child, Caleb Keith, born on May 31 weighing 9 pounds, and was 21 inches long.

40 YEARS AGO
Dennis Kalar, the Falls, is among 37 Minnesota Highway patrol cadets who have completed a 12-week training course.
Pvt. Norman E. Waller, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orley C. Waller, 1006 10th St., completed a helicopter repair course recently at the Army Transportation School, Fort Eustis, Va.
Out-of-town guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Isensee, 307 Ninth St., in honor of their son Gary’s graduation Wednesday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Isensee of Long Prairie, uncle and aunt of Gary.
Army Pvt. 1/c James B. Jornlin, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jornlin, 611 10th St., completed an air traffic control operator class recently at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss.

50 YEARS AGO
The Backus Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Leah Banen and William Peterson at Backus Junior High recently.
Ronald J. Blais, son of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Blais, Jameson Addition, is home on a 30-day leave. He was previously stationed at a military base near Manston, England.
Jerry Klow, 15-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Klow, Riverside Park, received burns to his body when he got into a can of caustic floor cleaner which he upset at his home Saturday.
Rev. Fr. John Maronic, OMI, Professor at St. Henry’s College, Belleville, Ill., arrived home to spend a month’s visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Maronic, 612 12th Ave., and other relatives and friends.

60 YEARS AGO
Robert A. Lynch of the Falls is in training with the air corps at Scott Field, Ill. He is the son of Mrs. Margaret E. McMurray.
Extensive improvements are being made at Kettle Falls Hotel, according to word brought down by Fred Lessard. The modernization program by the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Williams, includes the installation of hot and cold running water in guest rooms.
Charles, Bill and Art Corrin and Fao Toninato left this morning by car for Minneapolis, where they will attend an Iron Fireman Convention at the Nicollet Hotel as representatives of Corrin’s Plumbing and Heating.
A group of old friends surprised Mrs. Johanne Ulrich on the occasion of her birthday recently at her home, 801 Seventh St. Mrs. Ulrich is one of the border region’s pioneer residents.
