Alfreda Anderson, age 86, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007 at the Littlefork Care Center, Littlefork, Minn.
She is the daughter of Jonas and Sarah Nelson who once lived in Meadowbrook Township, Littlefork.
Alfreda was born in Pelican Rapids Aug. 10, 1921. She and her family moved to Littlefork around 1925. She attended Littlefork High School.
Alfreda joined the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corp (W.A.A.C.) in April 1942. She was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant Dec. 12, 1945. During her enlistment she received the Meritorious Unit Award, WAAC Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and an overseas service bar. Alfreda went overseas in January 1944 and served with the army in England, France and Belgium. She was stationed in Paris, France for most of her 11 months overseas.
Alfreda married Arthur Steinau June 17, 1943. They were later divorced.
On Dec. 29, 1965, she married Junior K. (Andy) Anderson. They lived in Bakersfield, Calif., until moving back to Littlefork in 1974.
For many years she and her husband owned and operated the Rendezvous, a recreation and refreshment business on Main Street in Littlefork.
Alfreda was a member of the board of education, Independent School District 362, a member of the board of directors of the Littlefork Coop Society, a director on the Koochiching Chapter of the American Red Cross and a member of the Littlefork Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Alfreda is survived by a sister, LaVerne Hennessy of Grand Marais, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Junior; four brothers, Albert, Enar, Albin and Berthel; and three sisters, Bertha, Signe and Peggy.
Memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, June 9, with military rites at Littlefork Lutheran Church.
