There will be an open house to celebrate John Friendt’s 80th birthday, June 27, 2 to 4 p.m., 1914 Sixth Ave. E.
Falls Fire and Safety has new owners, Joe and Chris Polus.

25 YEARS AGO
Two area people recently graduated from Red Wing Vocational Technical Institute. Students are Todd Steven Summer, electronic musical instrument repair, and Kenneth Paul Dragon, industrial machine mechanics.
Stacey C. Adams was named to the dean’s list spring semester at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, College of Business Administration.

40 YEARS AGO
Bruce Anderson, son of Harry Anderson of Ranier, has been appointed to the position of mathematics instructor on the staff of Rainy River State Junior College.
James A. Rinne of 1315 Second Ave. E. is one of 83 Minnesota National Guardsmen currently undergoing a rigorous officer training course at the Minnesota Military Academy, Camp Ripley.
About 120 persons were present Monday evening when Faith United Church held a potluck supper and retirement party in honor of Rev. Leslie Sanders, who is retiring Sunday after 36 years in the ministry.
Kimberly, 7, and Deseree Lindholm, 4, daughters of Mrs. Bertha Lindholm of 1917 Third Ave. W., South International Falls, appeared Friday on the Bozo program on WDSM at 4 p.m. Kimberly was also chosen as good manners girl for the day.

50 YEARS AGO
Marjorie Swenson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Swenson, celebrated her fourth birthday last Thursday afternoon at Spring Lodge, Island View.
Neoma Hall, 17, daughter of Mrs. Emma Rye, returned Sunday after spending a week at the civil air patrol summer camp for cadets at Ellsworth Air Force Base, Rapid City, S.D.
Private Elton Hall, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hall of South International Falls, has returned home after completing his basic training at Fort Carson, Colo.
Richard Kalb, David Skeim and Jim Wherley have been invited to play in the seventh annual North-South All Star football game in August at the Minneapolis Parade Stadium.

60 YEARS AGO
Mrs. Richard Walker of Holler was honored at a stork shower Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Garfield Gauthier.
Mrs. Jack McGauley and baby daughter, Geraldine Estelle, were honored at a shower recently at the Ben Snyder home in Indus.
Three young confirmands, all cousins, were honored on Sunday at a dinner at the Harold Oustad home. They are Misses Harriet Oustad, Coreen Lene and Betty Underdahl.
O’Handley's Market, the newest International Falls business firm, will stage its formal opening Wednesday. Owned and managed by Mr. and Mrs. Dan O’Handley, the firm is located at 800 Seventh St. Ed Hoffman will be in charge of the meat department.
