10 YEARS AGO
Friends and business associates remember Rudolph E. Erickson as a generous benefactor to colleges and students, as well as a successful entrepreneur. Erickson, 92, died Saturday, June 27, 1998 at the Falls Good Samaritan Center where he has resided since 1987.
Eric Gorden, a senior majoring in music, participated in a summer tour of Europe with Bemidji State University Choir.

25 YEARS AGO
The children of Ralph and Edna Nelson invite you to a buffet-reception in honor of their parents’ 50th wedding anniversary, today, 2 to 5 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Lars and Lillian Hultgern, of Stockholm, Sweden, are visiting their cousins in International Falls, Fred and Laverne Batdorf, Hilda Tessier and Edith Freden.

40 YEARS AGO
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Henrickson of Birchdale were honored recently at a lawn party at their home to mark their 25th wedding anniversary.
Maureen Ball, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ball, 606 Sixth St., has been named to the spring term dean’s honor roll at Hamline University, St. Paul.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Aasen and son, Roger, arrived from their home in San Bernardino, Calif., for a visit with relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Davison have departed for their home in Yakima, Wash., after a week’s visit at their parental homes, with Mr. and Mrs. Melferd Dyrstad, 1011 Ninth St. and Lake Kabetogama, and with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Keenan, Park Cabins.

50 YEARS AGO
Mrs. Anna Carragan, Ray, will be honored on her 80th birthday anniversary at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ray School.
Five families met for a picnic dinner at Sand Point, Rainy Lake, recently to honor Mr. and Mrs. George Titus on their 42nd wedding anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Shafer, Kozy Kourt Kabins, were guests of honor Sunday evening in the First Baptist Church parlors. Mr. and Mrs. Shafer and son, David Allen, 4 months, will leave tomorrow and plan to settle in a community in western Idaho.
Five couples surprised Mr. and Mrs. DeWayne LaValley, 114 13th St. W., on the occasion of their silver wedding anniversary Sunday evening.

60 YEARS AGO
A 55th wedding anniversary in itself is unusual but Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Smith of Loman Route — who were married 55 years ago today — will enjoy another unusual event. Every one of their 11 children will be on hand to help celebrate the occasion.
Rev. and Mrs. George Wold and son, Mark, had a pleasant surprise awaiting them when they returned from a two-week vacation Saturday evening. Friends of the church had arranged a food shower for them.
Minnesota Markets — yummm-baked ham for the Fourth — smoked picnic, 49 cents a pounds; watermelon, whole or half, 5 cents a pounds; napkins, 100 count, 12 cents; picnic plates, 12 for 10 cents; radishes, three firm bunches for 11 cents; green onions, mild and crisp, three bundles for 19 cents.
Guest for several weeks at the Eugene Granger home, 405 Sixth St., is Miss Margaret Lynch of Napa, Calif. Miss Lynch is a former Falls resident.
