Floyd G. Arnold, 76, of International Falls, passed away Friday afternoon, July 4, 2008 in his home with his wife by his side.
He was born in Kingston, Minn., on Sept. 6, 1931, to Ernest and Venus Arnold. He moved to International Falls with his parents as an infant where he was a life long resident.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952. When returning from duty, he started working for Boise Insulite Division in 1952.
On May 29, 1954 he married Virginia Koch of International Falls.
In 1956, he moved over to the Paper Division where he worked for an additional 31 years. He retired in 1987 at the age of 55.
In his earlier years, Floyd’s passion was fishing. He loved to fly his plane into remote lakes in search of bigger fish. He also did a lot of trapping which is how he got his nickname, “Beaver.” Floyd was always tinkering with new ideas to make things better. He loved spending time at the hunting shack during deer season with his brothers, sons, nephews and all the other guys that would stop by. He mostly loved just spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Venus Arnold; an infant brother, Dwayne Arnold; and a sister, Mavis Venne.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Virginia; a daughter, Linda; three sons, Alan (Tammy), John (Dinah) and Pat (Lesa); six grandchildren, Kelly, Desiree’, Mandy, Shana, Tricia and Alana; and five great-grandchildren, Bryan, Tori, Devin, Madison and Ivy. Floyd also has three brothers in International Falls, Dale (Kay), Phil (Shirley) and Gary (Sharon) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial gathering in celebration of Floyd’s life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the home of Alan and Tammy Arnold, 2277 County Road 109, International Falls.
The family would prefer memorials to go to the American Diabetes Association or to the Falls Dialysis Center, c/o Koochiching County Health Department.
